So, when a clever little trick called ‘floating eyeliner’ appeared on Reddit’s Makeup Addiction subreddit, it’s no surprise that the post immediately went viral and everybody lost it.
The eyeliner technique was posted by beauty vlogger Francesca Tanmizi, who shared a surprisingly simple approach to making her liquid eyeliner stand out on her hooded lids, without the smudge factor.
While one would usually apply eyeliner to their upper lash line (which would be hidden on hooded lids), Tanmizi draws a thick, ‘floating’ line in the middle of her lid.
Watch how she does it below:
Sure, the line looks a little out of the ordinary with her lids shut, but when she opens her eyes, she’s left with a wing that sits perfectly above her lashes (BTW: Tyra Banks would be so proud of that smize!).
While Tanmizi may not be the first person to try this ‘floating eyeliner’ trick, we think we can all agree that there’s just something about her short clip that was so adorable/pure/perfect. Her post was absolutely inundated with messages of support and praise. “This made me smile,” wrote one user. “Thanks for appreciating your eye shape and always making makeup tutorials to help me appreciate mine.”
Another user wrote, “The smile gets me too. I could watch the gif over and over just because it makes me happy.”
“I don’t even have hooded eyelids or nothing, but that’s so sweet and pure,” commented someone else.
When asked if it was weird to have the visible line on the middle of her lids, Tanmizi wrote, "As someone who is learning to do this, I say not really. It looks MUCH better than a vast field of blackness, which is what we otherwise are handed thanks to our natural eye shape." Touché.
“Floating it ends up just looking more like some sort of funky graphic liner and depending on how you apply eye shadow you can make it look super understated!”
If you’re struggling to apply eyeliner on your hooded lids, take your cues from Tanmizi and try this ‘floating eyeliner’ technique. You can also check out some more clever makeup tricks for hooded eyelids here.
