Abbie Chatfield shares that her and boyfriend Konrad are now in an open relationship

"Mummy and daddy aren't breaking up"

Since rising to fame on The Bachelor franchise, Abbie Chatfield has taught us a lot of things. From how to take pride in our bodies to her favourite beauty buys and skin care rituals, the 26-year-old has always been an open book. And now, she's even teaching us about a new way to love, with her and boyfriend Konrad Bien-Stephen leading an open relationship example.

The pair got behind the mic of Chatfield's It's A Lot podcast to share with listeners the update, after officially beginning to date in November last year.

"Everyone, mummy and daddy aren’t breaking up," Chatfield began. "We’re just having a different structure to our relationship."

Not being one to beat around the bush, she then simply blurted: "So, we're open."

After the couple laughed off the 'announcement', they continued on, sharing how they still plan to set boundaries and that there are still 'rules'.

"I’ve never been in an open relationship before, but it’s something I want to explore and I want to navigate and I want to learn,” said Bien-Stephen. "And someone we met on the weekend was actually like, they gave us some good tips; go see a sex therapist, talk about what your boundaries are — because you can't just go and sleep with anyone."

Some of the 'ground rules' the couple detailed included that they can’t sleep with someone that they’ve had sex with before, they can’t sleep with their friends, and they can’t sleep with the same person more than once unless they discuss it beforehand.

Although Chatfield and Bien-Stephen currently live in different states, they did reveal they still plan to move in together.

“Someone said to me, ‘What’s the difference in just being f*ck buddies?’. Well, we’re moving in together, we’re getting a dog, we’re very much in love. The only thing that makes a relationship is not monogamy,” said Chatfield. "Monogamy isn’t important to me but honesty is, so we tell each other things."

"There's more to a relationship than just sex," echoed Bien-Stephen, who said he's "still in love and obsessed" with Chatfield after sleeping with someone else.

Fans of the couple have been quick to show their support, and we too are loving their honesty and willingness to share their relationship details.

After all, it's 2022 and open relationships are probably still not as talked about as they should be. As long as everyone is being safe (we love the FRENCHIE Beret Condoms, $4.95 at Love Honey) and respectful, we're all for it.
