The BAFTAs 2022: A carpet of classic beauty moments

And good brows abound

It’s official: The British Academy Film Awards have wrapped for another year and as per usual the red carpet was rife with ample beauty inspiration.

In previous years we’ve studied scrupulously just to get Margot Robbie’s BAFTAs beauty look down, and seen just about every hue of red lipstick imaginable (who remembers Saoirse Ronan’s orange-red statement lip for the BAFTAs in 2020?).

As for the 2022 BAFTAs? You’d be hard-pressed to find a bad brow on the red carpet, and celebrities favoured classic makeup and hair choices.

Here are the standout looks from the evening…

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga is fast becoming one of our favourite actresses on the red carpet. The multi-hyphenate has a special skill for inhabiting the glamour of it all and her BAFTAs look did not disappoint. Gaga’s golden age waves delicately framed her porcelain skin and soft smokey cat eye, and her lips were coated in a nude sheen of lipstick.

Lashana Lynch

The James Bond actress was the picture of refined glamour on the red carpet. We’re talking a velvet red lip paired with a soft-focus smokey eye in a daring shade of satin black *chefs kiss*.

Rachel Zegler

West Side Story actress Rachel Zegler looked every bit the modern debutante with her contemporary boy bob swiftly dragging her sweetheart-neckline satin gown into the 21st century.

Lucy Boynton

Is Lucy Boynton a time traveler from another decade? Potentially, given that the actress somehow manages to completely immerse herself into historically poignant fashion moments with no trouble at all. From her finger waves to her pronounced brows and vampy red lip, Boynton expertly embodied ‘20s siren nostalgia.

Florence Pugh delivered on the androgyny front this year, Slicking back her dark hair into a sleek, deep-parted updo that showed off her cheekbones and a lick of black eyeliner.

We’ve seen a number of celebrities rock Y2K-inspired beauty trends lately, but Watson’s bobby-pinned hair is giving us very real flashbacks to our primary school disco days. In a good way, of course.

We’re so used to fangirling over Aboah’s lowkey off-duty model makeup that when she goes all out for the red carpet it’s all that more special. The Rimmel London ambassador is giving us serious Sade vibes with her low-hanging braid, statement ‘80s earrings, bronze smokey eye and red lip.

Sex Education actress Simone Ashley embraced her natural beauty with a makeup and hair moment that simply enhanced her already stunning features. Her wavy hair was loose and free, her large brown eyes rimmed with kohl liner and her brows were fluffy and magnificent.
