How to master Bella Hadid's signature snatched pony

According to her hair stylist

We don’t think there’s such a thing as the Oscars for ponytails, but if there were, we’d definitely cast a few hundred votes in Bella Hadid’s favour – girl does a damn good pony.

Or rather, she rocks one well – the mastermind behind the sleek-to-wavy situation we’ve long lusted after is actually Jennifer Yepez, Hadid’s hair stylist.

The good news is, she just broke down exactly how to DIY her signature snatched pony, so we’re officially well on our way to having Hadid-level hair…

Step 1

First up? The blow-dry. “Prep your hair with TRESemmé Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Protective Styling Spray, apply Sebastian Professional Thickefy Foam [from] roots to mid lengths, and then blow dry your hair with the Dyson blow dryer using the T3 Medium Brush,” Yepez advises.

After blow-drying strands smooth, Yepez recommends using a claw clip to secure hair in a high bun at the back of the head in order to add volume before styling the pony. She releases a small amount each time, using a comb to tease each section close to the root for a little extra lift.

Step 2

This step isn’t necessary if your hair is naturally thick, but Yepez relies on clip-ins to maximise on fullness. “[I like to add] Luxy Hair extensions [for volume] – mine are usually 3-4 inches wide,” she explains. “[To add the fullness, just] clip all the hair in [adding a few pieces every time you let down a section to tease], making sure the extensions go in the direction the ponytail will be in.”

Step 3

Once you’ve volumised your whole head of hair (leaving the very front as is to ensure a sleek pull-back), it’s time to put the pony into action. “Spray R + Co Vicious Strong Hold Flexible Hairspray all over and use your brush [to pull hair into a] sleek pony, making sure everything is sleek and smooth [at the front]," shares Yepez.

“Use whatever elastic is more comfortable for you [to secure the pony. I like to] use Goody Hair hair ties doubled up [for extra hold],” she says.

Step 4

Got your pony locked in? Great – time to add a little texture below the tie to finish. “Take medium sections [from the pony] and curl [them],” Yepez advises. “I use the Babyliss Ceramic 38mm Curling Iron [to keep curls on the looser side.]"

And that's it! "[After you’re finished curling your hair], brush it out and you have your snatched pony," she says of the final step.
