Beauty Crew Junior Beauty Writer / March 20 2019
The momentum behind natural beauty products has snowballed over the last few years. And as we become even more eco-educated and sustainably minded, demand for all things natural, clean and green continues to explode!
While this is undoubtedly great news, it means there are more natural beauty products than ever to choose from. So which ones should you buy?
As always, the Beauty Crew team are at your service, putting their bodies on the line (literally) to advise you on the latest, greatest and all-time best natural beauty products.
Here are our favourite natural beauty buys:
Ipsum Best Skin Enriching Face Oil
Kakadu plum seed oil is a homegrown ingredient that’s known for being incredibly rich in skin-brightening vitamin C. We’ve been hearing more and more about its benefits lately and this particular Australian face oil is supercharged with the stuff.
The review: “The Ipsum Best Skin Enriching Face Oil is a really beautiful, luxurious oil. It’s made from certified organic ingredients and it has plant oils in there, like rosehip and Kakadu plum seed. It feels beautiful on the skin. I use it at night when I need an extra dose of nourishment. My skin feels so glowing, fresh and radiant in the morning.” Carli Alman, Beauty Crew’s Editor
Andalou Naturals Pumpkin Honey Glycolic Mask
This brightly-coloured orange jar doesn’t just look cute sitting on your bathroom vanity, it packs a serious natural actives punch! A powerful trio of fruit stem cells, vitamin C and glycolic acid clear away dead skin and leave your complexion glowing.
The review: “I love using the Andalou Pumpkin Honey Glycolic Mask every two to three weeks during a Sunday night masking session to give my skin added brightness and radiance after a long week. It has really nice ingredients for brightening, like glycolic AHAs, which are great for sloughing away dead skin cells. It’s also got pumpkin puree and manuka honey so it’s also really hydrating. BUT, the best bit (other than making my skin look nice and fresh) is that it smells like cake batter!” Carli Alman, Beauty Crew’s Editor
Lanolips 101 Ointment
There are now more Lanolips lip balms, lip glosses and creams on the shelves of Priceline than we can count, and we honestly love them all. But it’s the OG Lanolips 101 Ointment formula that will forever have a special place in our hearts. If this isn’t yet a staple in your beauty bag, we suggest you stock up, stat!
The review: “I’ve been using this for years and have one in my bag, one in my car, one in my mum’s car, one at my mum’s house – I just have it everywhere! It’s 100 per cent natural, made from lanolin, and I use it mainly for my lips. But, if my cuticles are feeling a bit dry in winter I use it on them too, and I’ve used it on my eyelids when they’re dry. It’s a super nourishing, really hydrating lip treatment and it doesn’t feel greasy or tacky.” Carli Alman, Beauty Crew’s Editor
Nude By Nature Touch Of Glow Highlight Stick
Wind this highlighting stick up and get ready to GLOW! The cream-to-powder formula guarantees the ease of blending that comes with a cream highlighter, with the longevity of a powder. And it contains skin-loving ingredients like Australian Kakadu plum oil and desert lime.
The review: “Hi, I’m Chelsea and I’m addicted to glowing skin! These highlighting sticks are one of my favourite go-to products for nailing my radiant skin goals. It’s impossible to have a dull skin day with this in your makeup kit. I just love the natural sheen it delivers - its highlighting finish is just right, not over-the-top and it has great staying power. I swap and change between the Champagne, Rose and Bronze shades, depending on the look I’m after. I’m also a big fan of its stick formula - it lives in my handbag and is a dream to blend.” Chelsea Tromans, Beauty Crew’s Contributing Editor
Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask
Manuka honey has long been touted for its antibacterial properties so injecting a mask with its goodness completely makes sense in our books. But unlike some other purifying masks, this one won’t leave your skin dry or totally zapped of oils; instead it hydrates while it detoxifies.
The review: “This is such a great all-rounder face mask. Manuka honey in the formula is great for hydrating skin, but it also has antibacterial properties so I find it helps clear breakouts, too. My skin always feels silky soft after using it.” Chelsea Tromans, Beauty Crew’s Contributing Editor
100BON Eau De Thé & Gingembre EDP Concentrate
If you know your French, it won’t come as any surprise that this natural fragrance features fresh-smelling notes of ginger and tea. And the eco-conscious will be pleased to hear the packaging is 100 per cent recyclable.
The review: “Besides the fact that this smells really refreshing (which is perfect for a hot summer’s day), it’s also made from 100 per cent natural ingredients and even the alcohol is made from organic wheat. Plus, the bottle is recyclable and refillable.” Iantha Yu, Beauty Crew’s Beauty Editor
Cost: $78 (50mL)
Burt’s Bees Detoxifying Sheet Mask
If you’re a fan of sheet masks, you’ll be pleased to know that Burt’s Bees have an incredible range of 99 per cent natural sheet masks. Our pick is the Burt’s Bees Detoxifying Charcoal Sheet Mask, which takes just two minutes to work its magic on acne-prone skin.
The review: “Who doesn’t love a sheet mask? I especially love using this one when I’m stepping off a plane and my skin is feeling really congested. The charcoal in this helps to de-gunk and draw out impurities. What I also love about it is that it’s 99 per cent natural.” Iantha Yu, Beauty Crew’s Beauty Editor
L’Oréal Paris Botanicals Lavender Mask
Another product with a 100 per cent recyclable package! This lavender hair mask is infused with ultra-hydrating coconut oil to lavish moisture on fine, fragile hair. It will come as no surprise that our Review Crew® gave this goodie 4.5 stars when they tried it.
The review: “My hair can sometimes feel really dry and damaged and I think that comes with being a bottled blonde. I like to use this mask in lieu of a conditioner every time I wash my hair and I love it because it make my hair feel nice and soft. What’s also really good about this product is that it’s vegan, 98 per cent natural and free from nasties.” Iantha Yu, Beauty Crew’s Beauty Editor
Youth to the People Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask
If you’ve got dry skin, then an overnight mask is a non-negotiable in your skin care arsenal. This vegan, plant-based face mask contains a powerful concoction of radiance-boosting vitamin C, plus four vital hydrators: squalene, hyaluronic acid, glycerin and betaine, to plump and repair dehydrated skin.
The review: “I’m really loving this overnight mask – it’s packed FULL of antioxidants! It looks a little thick but it’s actually really lightweight on the skin. When I wake up in the morning my skin feels really hydrated, glowy and radiant. This one isn’t out until the 20th of March so keep an eye out for it.” Erin Docherty, Beauty Crew’s Beauty Writer
BYBI Mega Mist
This hyaluronic acid-packed facial mist is 100 per cent natural, vegan AND cruelty-free – yep, the complete trifecta! If your complexion is looking dull, irritated or you just want to treat your skin to some extra TLC (go on!), this mist is the perfect pick-me-up.
The review: “This mist is perfect for when my skin is feeling a little bit dull and dehydrated. I like to just spritz it on my skin before I put my serum on, but you can pretty much use it at any point in your routine. It makes your skin feel really soft, plump and hydrated.” Erin Docherty, Beauty Crew’s Beauty Writer
SALT BY HENDRIX Lip Butter
This lovely little jar is chock-full of ultra-hydrating ingredients including certified organic shea butter, coconut oil and cocoa butter. The subtly tinted formula will leave your lips perfectly moisturised and fend off dreaded dry lips.
The review: “I’m a bit of a lip balm addict so it’s always a good time when I find one that actually works. This one has a little bit of a pink tint to it so you get hydrated lips with a little pop of colour!” Erin Docherty, Beauty Crew’s Beauty Writer
Sukin Oil Balancing Anti-Pollution Facial Masque
If you suffer from breakouts or congested skin, charcoal is an ingredient you should add into your skin care regimen, STAT! This detoxifying mask contains bamboo charcoal to clear pores and send troublesome skin on the road to recovery.
The review: “This mask is my absolute go-to when my skin is congested. The oil-balancing formula contains charcoal, so it really draws out any impurities in the skin and it leaves you feeling really clean and refreshed.” Isobel Larkin, Beauty Crew’s Beauty Assistant.
Eco Tan Face Tan Water™
Every once in a while, a product launches that’s like nothing else on the market at the time. Eco Tan Face Tan Water™ quickly garnered a cult following when the tanning facial toner burst onto the scene a few years ago. Applied in the same way as a facial toner, it can be used every couple of days to build and maintain a natural-looking face tan.
The review: “This Face Tan Water is one of my all-time skin care faves; I’ve been using this stuff for years. It just so happens that it’s also made with natural and certified organic ingredients. It gives you a really nice, gradual, tan. It’s the perfect product for adding a bit of colour if you’re like me and you’re stumbling out of the house, half-asleep in the morning with no makeup for a gym sesh. It’s also anti-ageing and anti-acne.”
SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Hydrating Body Lotion
If you’re looking for a body lotion that goes the extra mile beyond moisturising your skin, try this one. It contains anti-inflammatory and antibacterial frankincense and myrrh extract to help heal dry, cracked skin.
The review: “This raw shea butter lotion is one of the most hydrating body lotions I have ever used. I’m totally obsessed with skin care but when it comes to moisturising my body, I am beyond lazy. So, the thing I love about this one is that I can just use it every other night and because it’s so hydrating, my skin stays perfectly smooth and moisturised in between uses.”
