All the times celebrities went filter-free
A celebration of honest selfies

Don’t get us wrong, we love a bit of red carpet glamour as much as the next beauty-obsessed celebrity superfan. But when a celebrity throws away technological quick fixes like Instagram filters and photo editing to share a filter-free selfie (skin texture and all) – we get a little bit excited.
Heck, everytime Addison Rae rocks no makeup we lose our tiny minds.
That’s why we want to celebrate all the gracious celebs who’ve ditched the face-altering filters and revealed an honest glimpse behind the proverbial star-studded curtain…
Blake Lively isn’t just the type of celebrity who’s comfortable stepping out sans hair and makeup, she’s also the type to publicly call out her husband for not letting her know she was having a bad hair day. Lively shared a photo of herself with the question “how did not one person find the time to mention to me that this is what my hair looked like today?,” typed above a bird's nest of bedhead hair. We stan a relatable queen.

Ariana Grande recently treated fans to a r.e.m beauty transformation via Instagram. The “God Is A Woman” singer started things off with a bare face and a cup of tea, and subsequently showed off the brand’s impressive new concealer formula. While we love a new makeup launch, we’re still hung up on the fact that the 29-year-old hasn’t aged since her days on Victorious.

POOSH founder Kourtney Kardashian might get a lot of sh*t from her sisters about her strict vegan diet and unusual approach to wellness, but the mum of three is clearly doing something right. The 43-year-old recently shared an Instagram carousel dedicated to an afternoon spent poolside in the summer sun, and it’s fair to say her penchant for healthy living is doing wonders for her skin.

Spotting Jennifer Lawrence in public these days is like bearing witness to a rare bird sighting. The actress and new mum ventured into the New York streets for a wander in the summer heat. Completely bare faced with her hair blowing in the wind, it’s evident the 31-year-old has been focusing on her skin care routine because she looks basically poreless.

Wonder what Captain Marvel looks like in her downtime? Turns out she has a penchant for crochet hats and a makeup-free face. Brie Larson’s been vacaying in Hawaii recently and the Marvel actress has clearly been enjoying a more laid-back look – we’re talking no makeup and natural hair in lieu of a blow dry.

Kim Kardashian’s skin care line SKKN by Kim has already blessed us in so many ways. The price tag on the stuff has caused quite the Internet drama and there have also been questions around the glaring similarity the brand’s moniker bears to Lori Harvey’s SKN (this tea is piping hot people). The sweet icing on the cake though? Kim K giving fans a look at her skin minus makeup and filters. The mogul employed the help of facialist Joanna Czech to demonstrate the SKKN skin care routine and subsequently bared all in a video that shows off her natural skin texture. Yep, the most beautiful woman on the planet has skin texture and pigmentation. We feel seen.

Blake Lively may have access to Hollywood's finest hair stylists and makeup artist’s but when it comes to behind the scenes beauty shots, the actress likes to steer clear of Facetune for a more natural approach.

Lady Gaga shared a realistic sneak peek of her 2022 SAG Awards makeup look via Instagram, letting her fans see what real skin texture looks like on the red carpet. The House Of Gucci star advertised just how enviable her complexion is, but we love that she picked a selfie that wasn’t airbrushed to the point of complete poreless-ness.

Yara Shahidi’s got a reputation for keeping it real online, and when it comes to selfies, she’s not shy of letting us see her in her downtime. Makeup-free and sporting some large wire frames, Shahidi gave us a glimpse at her natural self.

TikToker Charli D’Amelio has made a reputation for herself when it comes to filter-free selfies. The 17-year-old has said publicly via a Tweet response to a fan that she does not edit her acne out of photos for a reason.
"It's taken me a long time to feel comfortable in my skin,” D’Amelio said on Twitter. “This is how I look and makeup only helps so much.”
“I have to be confident and learn to love every 'imperfection' that I have but each one makes me unique and special in my own way," she concluded..

Megan Thee Stallion
Megan Thee Stallion has never been one to be afraid to show the world her bare skin, but the rapper treated us to a filter-free version of herself all the same. The result? Glowy, blemish-free skin, a plump pout and the kind of long, undulating waves we’d expect to see on a mermaid *chefs kiss*.
