Hailey Bieber doesn't take short cuts when it comes to skin care

This is every single step in her lengthy routine
Hailey Bieber has become the it girl on everyone's skin-spiration mood board, and with a successful skin care brand like Rhode Skin under her belt, it's clear she knows how to capitalise on her best assets.
But just because her name has become synonymous with good, no great, skin doesn't mean she hasn't had struggle in her own skin journey.
"Certain products irritate my skin, giving me a horrible itchy rash around my mouth and eyes," she told Glamour. Because of this, Bieber is quite particular about her routine — "I always try to avoid fragrance in products as it’s too much on the skin."
When her skin has been a little angry and irritated due to stress, travel, lack of sleep, PCOS, or simply testing out a new product, she swears by Avène Cicalfate+ Restorative Protective Cream ($23.19 from Priceline).
"Usually when my skin gets like this I only reach for products that will help calm and heal the skin while keeping bacteria away," Bieber shared via TikTok. "I've been using Cicalfate at night. I [love] this product forever."
And during her pregnancy she became obsessed with layering Cyklar's Vitamin C Body Oil (USD $38 from Cyklar) over the top of Naturium's The Glow Getter Multi-Oil Body Butter ($39.95 from Naturium) to minimise her stretch marks, calling it her go-to body combo via Instagram.
"I've been using this since I was pregnant and I've probably gone through 15 jars of it at this point," she joked.
But what about the skin care products she uses every day? Luckily for us, the Rhode Skin founder has been more than happy over the past few years to share her skin journey with the world.

Her skin care routine in the morning
1/At-home facial
"One of my favourite things to do when I'm getting ready for work is I will do a mask," Bieber shared via YouTube. "I wouldn't do a mask every single day obviously, but when I want a little bit of an extra glow I go for a nice calming, hydrating mask."
She applies an even spread of Biologique Recherche's Masque Visolastine ($222 from Biologique Recherche), and then she kills two birds with one stone, and layers Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Under Eye Masks ($71.91 from Amazon Australia) over the top.
And if her eyes are feeling a bit puffy first thing in the morning she'll use a facial tool like Jillian Dempsey's Gold Bar ($305.37 from Jillian Dempsey) or the NuFACE Trinity Device ($593 from MECCA) to give herself a facial massage.
"I love facial tools, I'm obsessed with them," Bieber joked. "Give me any facial tool, I'll try anything."
"I usually do this for like maybe a minute," she explained. "Once I'm done with that I sit for the rest of the remaining time with the mask on. My husband loves to do masks just like I do, so that's a win for me."

2/ Cleanser
After wearing her face mask for about 10 minutes, Bieber rinses it off with Ranavant Botanics' Luminous Ceremony Cream Cleanser ($89.10 from Cult Beauty).
"I really prefer like a creamy, hydrating cleanser, more than something that gets foamy, or that makes your skin feel really tight and dry," she explained.
To mitigate any puffiness or swelling she experiences in the morning, and to encourage blood flow, she likes to massage her skin while she's cleansing it.
Then she rinses her skin and gently pats most of the water off her face with a towel — leaving a bit of moisture behind to help her other skin care products absorb better.

3/ Toning essence
Next up is Rhode Skin's Glazing Milk (USD $32 from Rhode Skin), which Bieber developed after she discovered that using a hydrating toner or a toning essence helped to improve her skin barrier.
"[It] helped [to] keep that beautiful glow in the skin, [and] helped in so many different ways," she said via YouTube. "Looking glazed is very, very important to me."
She applies it to her hands, and then presses the essence into her face, and takes it down onto her neck as well.

4/ Serum
When it comes to serums she likes to use her own Rhode Skin Peptide Glazing Fluid (USD $32 from Rhode Skin) or the Biba Los Angeles Plant Stem Cell Peptide Serum ($146.24 from FWRD).
"I really, really, really love peptides for the skin," she gushed in a YouTube video. "I think that it's one of the best ingredients to use, it's one of my favourite ingredients to use."
"I love niacinamide, I love peptides, I love hyaluronic acid — those are all ingredients that I make sure I'm using in my skincare," she explained.

5/ Moisturiser
Bieber is obsessed with the Rhode Skin Barrier Restore Cream (USD $32 from Rhode Skin), but we've also spotted her using Charlotte Tilbury's Magic Cream ($106 from Charlotte Tilbury) coupled with Furtuna Skin's Due Alberi Biphase Moisturizing Oil ($346.37 from FWRD) on her YouTube channel.
"I'm gonna do the slightest bit of moisturiser over my serum before I put my SPF on — I wouldn't typically do this long of a routine in the daytime — I would usually just wake up, wash my face, and maybe [apply] a little bit of serum and SPF, but since I'm preparing for a work day, it's a little bit more than usual," she explained. "I always try to be really careful when I'm talking about oils, or recommending oils for the skin, because it doesn't work for everybody."

6/ Facial massage
Bieber uses the oil on her face to help her Shani Darden Skin Care Facial Sculpting Wand ($614.22 from FWRD) to glide effortlessly over her skin.
"I really love this device, I gifted it to a lot of people this year for Christmas just because I think they're fun to try and mess around with," Bieber shared, before turning the device on at the lowest setting.
"It actually feels so nice. I clench my teeth really hard at night, so when I wake up in the morning my jaw is usually kind of sore and [I'm] sore in my temples," she explained. "You may be watching this and be like 'these facial toning devices look absolutely wild, and that's not for me', and I wouldn't blame you — to each their own."

7/ SPF
"I am very big on SPF, I don't leave the house without it, I don't go to work without it," Bieber confessed. "Even if I'm just working from home and I'm inside the house — the sun rays still hit you through the windows — so my final step is sunscreen."
"I know there's a lot of debate around how much sunscreen you're supposed to use when you apply it every day," she continued. "I don't have that answer. I couldn't tell you. I've heard it said that it's one full teaspoon, which sounds like a lot of sunscreen to me."
"The way I do it — and I am so down to be corrected, people can call me out if I'm wrong — but I use like one full pump of sunscreen, and then if I feel like I need more in other areas I will add more," she explained.
The Rhode Skin founder uses the Elta MD Tinted Sunscreen ($70 from Amazon Australia), because she thinks the tinted formula blends into her skin a little bit better.

Her skin care routine in the evening
1/ Double cleanse
After a day of wearing makeup, Bieber likes to reset her skin by cleansing with a balm or oil cleanser like Rhode Skin Pineapple Refresh Cleanser (USD $30 from Rhode Skin) or MARA Beauty Algae Enzyme Cleansing Oil ($107 from One Fine Secret).
"I started doing this during quarantine and it's honestly made the biggest difference in my skin," she explained via YouTube. "So that is how I take my makeup off now, I don't do it any other way"
Then she follows up with the HoliFrog Tashmoo Water Lily Nourishing Milky Wash ($54 from Sephora) as her second cleanse.
"I like cleansers that don't get super super foamy, I prefer something that's like a milkier, hydrating, nourishing wash," she continued. "I never like for my skin to feel dry, and stripped, and tight after I wash it."

2/ Serums
Just like her morning routine, Bieber uses her Rhode Skin Peptide Glazing Fluid (USD $32 from Rhode Skin), or the Biba Los Angeles Plant Stem Cell Peptide Serum ($146.24 from FWRD).
"I'm going to massage it into my skin while my face is still a little bit damp, so that the product soaks into the skin a little bit better," she explained.

3/ Moisturiser
"At night time I typically go with a more intense moisturiser, something thicker, just to kind of soak into my skin overnight," Bieber explained.
This is where the Rhode Skin Barrier Butter (USD $36 from Rhode Skin) comes in handy, but she also rates the Biba Los Angeles Cream Barrier ($146.24 from FWRD) for the job too.
"If I'm not getting into bed looking like a glazed donut then I'm not doing the right thing," she joked. "Find yourself a moisturiser that helps you look like a glazed doughnut at the end of the day."
The only time she might skip a rich moisturiser in the evening is if her skin is breaking out — "just because I think that it can make breakouts worse".
However, dryness and sensitivity are her two biggest skin issues, so usually she likes to layer an oil like the aforementioned Furtuna Skin Due Alberi Biphase Moisturizing Oil ($346.37 from FWRD) over the top of her moisturiser at night.
"I don't ever do too much I kind of just like to pat it into the skin," she explained.

4/ Spot treatment
When she does break out, Bieber addresses it with a spot treatment she was prescribed by her dermatologist and Starface Hydro-Stars ($28.20 from Amazon Australia).
"I just dab it right on the little problem areas," she said. "With prescription stuff I find that it can be really, really harsh on the skin if it's overdone or used too much — I've had to learn that the hard way multiple times — so [I] just [use] a tiny little dab."
"I really, really love the little Starface pimple stickers," Bieber gushed. "They totally help heal a pimple way faster, so if I'm breaking out I will always sleep with one of these on."

5/ Eye cream
"I read somewhere that you're supposed to put your eye cream on as the last step, but I think I do that sometimes because I almost forget, and then I remember at the very end," Bieber joked as she applied bareMinerals Ageless Phyto-Retinol Eye Cream ($85.99 from Amazon Australia).
"I'm usually really, really diligent about eye cream, because the eyes are really, really sensitive area, and I'm trying to prevent crow's feet," she admitted. "I put eye cream on my lids too, because those get saggy as you age."

6/ Lip balm
Of course, Bieber doesn't go anywhere without her Rhode Skin Peptide Lip Treatment (USD $18 from Rhode Skin), but she's also partial to the cult-classic Aquaphor Healing Ointment ($16.20 from Lila Beauty).
"Last but not least our peptide lip treatment — my favourite — lip care is skin care, so you cannot neglect and forget your lips," she said via YouTube.
"I legitimately cannot go to bed without doing this," Bieber explained in another video. "I hate chapped lips, I hate when they feel dry, it's truly one of my biggest pet peeves."
"My go-to is Aquaphor, I think it's the best lip balm," she continued, saying she likes to use the ointment on dry patches on her face and body too.
