For us beauty buffs, this forced moment of stillness, and unexpected free time means that our skincare routine is finally getting the necessary 24-hour TLC it deserves. Whether you’re forgoing makeup or indulging in beauty rituals previously reserved for the weekend, these self-care silver linings are important to recognise – and embrace – even during the most challenging of times.
Here to remind us of this is none other than celebrity, social media star and internet comedian, Chrissy Teigen. One of many celebrities using their Instagram platforms to connect and engage with their followers during the coronavirus crisis, Teigen shared a photo of herself watching Home Alone (an entirely fitting choice given the circumstances) while wearing a LED facemask.
While many of us might already be familiar with LED masks – a favourite too, of other celebrities like Kate Hudson and Victoria Beckham – here is a quick rundown for those of us new to this ultra-tech beauty ritual.
LED masks (which stands for light emitting diode masks) are commonly used to minimise acne breakouts and improve the overall condition and appearance of the skin. Using a combination of Red, Blue and Near-Infrared LED lights, each serves a different purpose – blue light triggers photochemical oxidation to kill bacteria on the skin, red light stimulates cell renewal and near-infrared is perfect for reducing inflammation and redness.
Chrissy’s personal LED mask of choice is the Boost Advanced LED Light Therapy Face Mask by The Light Salon, available to purchase for a small fortune (a cool $746 to be exact). This intensive treatment replicates The Light Salon's famous 'Skin Health & Rejuvenation' facial from the comfort of your own home, helping to combat signs of aging and regenerate the skin.
While this high-tech beauty treatment does come at a cost, it definitely produces results. Our beauty editor Iantha Yu even put it to the test! Below, we’ve rounded up some of our favourites for you to try.
