Essential skills

Beauty Crew Beauty Editor / January 29 2026

When summer hits there are a few things on our mind: 1) our makeup look for Mardi Gras, and 2) the hairstyle that's going to be our ride or die during festival season.

And with Laneway a mere week away, it's time we start getting serious about the latter.

Thankfully, celebrity hairstylist and ELEVEN Australia Co-Creative Director Joey Scandizzo is sharing his must-have products for effortless, long-lasting festival hair with BEAUTYcrew.

"Think: heat-proof, sweat-resistant looks designed to go the distance, from first act to final encore" — keep scrolling to peep his expert tips and go-to hair products for festival season.

1/ Pack a smoothing balm for flyaways

"Eleven Australia Smooth Me Now Flyaway Hair Balm ($27.95 from Adore Beauty) is my hero festival product. It takes seconds to smooth flyways, tidy up your hairline and make your style look polished again," dishes Scandizzo. "It's the easiest way to reset your hair without starting over."

"For a clean centre-part, start at your roots, running the balm in a downwards motion," he tells us. "Then use your fingers or a brush to smooth the product through the rest of your hair — it's that easy."

BEAUTYcrew recommends: TIGI Bed Head Hair Stick ($9.99 from Chemist Warehouse) and Disco Stick Hair Wax Stick ($24.99 from Adore Beauty)

2/ Combat frizz with a strong hold styling pomade

"Slicked-back styles are perfect for festivals because they work with heat, not against it," says Scandizzo. "A small amount of this light-weight Eleven Australia Slick Hold Styling Pomade ($27.95 from Adore Beauty) keeps your hair frizz-free and holds everything in place as the day goes on."

"For best results, take a small amount of the product, rub it into your hands and work it through your hair from roots to ends," he advises.

BEAUTYcrew recommends: O&M Pomade ($43.95 from O&M) and Amika On Lock High Hold Wax ($49.95 from Oz Hair & Beauty)

3/ Use texturising and volumising spray for a more lived in vibe

"Festival hair should look a little undone," Scandizzo tells us. "Sea salt spray gives hair grip and texture, and it actually looks better the more you move and live in it."

"For a beach-inspired look, spray Eleven Australia Sea Salt Texture Spray ($27.95 from Adore Beauty) into your roots for volume and then section your mid-length and ends, layering the product for texture and thickness," he instructs. "You can then either let your hair dry naturally, or use a diffuser attachment to further enhance your natural waves."

BEAUTYcrew recommends: KEVIN.MURPHY Hair Resort Spray ($46.95 from Adore Beauty) and OUAI Wave Spray ($54 from Sephora)
