The lazy girl’s hack to getting the most out of your hair mask

InStyle Beauty Editor Bettina Tyrell dishes her best kept hair secret

BeautyCrew Beauty Editor / July 29 2019

If you’re anything like us, you probably find applying a hair mask to be a bit of a pain.

We can never seem to carve out the time in our schedule, and when we do, the frantic jumping in and out of the shower to towel-dry our hair, apply and then wait a good 10 to 20 minutes for the mask to do its thing is all a bit too much of a rigmarole for our liking.

But during this week’s Get Lippy podcast, InStyle’s Beauty Editor Bettina Tyrell was talking about how she can’t get enough of hair masks, saying, “I think they’re a super underrated and underused method for obtaining really healthy, shiny, gorgeous hair.”

“I know why you’re not all that diligent with your hair masks is because – I get it, it’s a faff – but it really doesn’t need to be.”

And then she dished this great beauty tip:

“I’ve got kind of a method that I use,” she explained. “Skip the whole idea of washing your hair then applying a hair mask to wet hair and then waiting 20 minutes and getting back in the shower. That’s what’s recommended on the tubes but that doesn’t necessarily need to happen.”

“This is how I apply a hair mask to my hair: The night before I’m going to wash my hair (the next morning), I get the hair mask and I apply it to dry, dirty hair. I put the cream all through my hair and I comb it through, so it gets good, even distribution and I twist it up and put it into a bun and I sleep in it.”

We don’t know about you, but any beauty trick that works its magic while we sleep is a winner in our eyes!
