Lenny Kravitz exfoliates using sand from his private island

We stan a natural beauty king *chefs kiss*

The information that iconic rock legend Lenny Kravitz enjoys  a low-fuss natural routine is not unusual. However, what is outrageous (and also weirdly believable) is that he’s fond of a bit of manual exfoliation using sand.

But not just any sand, oh no. It must be sand from his private island in the Bahamas because, as he recently revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair, “ I scrub [my face] with the sand from the ocean because it’s very fine and powdery.” The more you know…

The rest of Kravitz’s routine follows a similar low-maintenance vein, opting to wash his face solely with water and a few key moisturising items, “I use coconut oil on my body, shea butter, cocoa butter, all organic.”

But it seems even a cool guy like Kravitz isn’t safe from the shortcomings of his gender, going the classic 2-in-1 body wash and shampoo route and horrifying us all in the process. The one redeeming factor about this unfortunate step in his routine, however, is that he only uses the cult-fave Dr. Bronner's Almond Soap, “I wash my body with it, I wash my hair with it, and I wash my clothes with it. It’s a really simple island routine, but I carry that wherever I go.”

Lenny likes to finish up with a touch of fragrance, either reaching for YSL’s Y (the rockstar is fronting the brand’s latest campaign for the new fragrance) or blending up a concoction of his own using fragrance oils – something he’s been doing for years. “When you’re a teenager, you can’t wait to shave and then wear cologne—you think you’re becoming a man. Then I got into oils, which is more my vibe, and mixing oils and coming up with my own concoctions.”

To continue the beach-themed beauty vibe Kravitz has started, here’s how to create 'seashell nails' - AKA Instagram's new nail art obsession.
