With the likes of Kim Kardashian and Miley Cyrus undergoing dramatic hair changes on almost a daily basis, you’d be forgiven for thinking that one particular celebrity’s subtle hair switch-up isn’t all that noteworthy. But there are always exceptions to a rule, and Meghan Markle is certainly one of them. Because the Duchess of Sussex has such a signature look that’s she’s been rocking for years i.e. a loose and tousled bun, it’s always interesting to see what styles she opts for when she does indeed change up her look. And while Meghan hasn’t been afraid to experiment with those styles, she’s always returned to her much-loved tousled bun. Until now that is.
If many of the hairstyles the Duchess wore in December and during her recent international royal tour are anything to go by, the tousled bun is making way for a sleeker, more sophisticated ‘do. Don’t believe us? Then check out some of Meghan’s recent looks below.
Visit to Brinsworth House
In what was her last public engagement before Christmas, Meghan showcased a sleeker version of her signature look during a visit to Brinsworth House, a nursing home for those who have worked in the entertainment industry. While the bun itself was on the messier side, her usual face framing pieces of hair were pulled back and off her face.
British Fashion Awards
During a surprise appearance at the British Fashion Awards, Meghan opted for one of the most sophisticated looks we’ve seen her wear to date. Practically glowing in a black one shoulder Givenchy dress, all of the duchess’s hair was slicked back into a low chignon.
Wheelchair basketball final at the 2018 Invictus Games
The half-up, half-down hairstyle has been trending for a while now and it seems as though Meghan well and truly got the memo. Rather than throwing half of her hair into a messy bun on top of her head like we do however, Meghan opted for a classier look, keeping her top section of hair smooth and frizz-free.

While Meghan’s tight ponytail may have been chosen because an undone bun was unlikely to stand-up to the Fijian humidity during her recent royal tour, we’re loving her more polished look all the same.

Another day, another sleek ponytail. While Meghan does seem to favour a bun or a blow-dry over a ponytail in most instances, this simple pulled-back ponytail was the perfect complement to her statement dress.
