The upcoming men’s hair trends for him to try

“We are definitely stepping away from polished looks”

BEAUTYcrew Beauty Editor / July 16 2021

Here at BEAUTYcrew, we’re constantly on the hunt for the next big trends in hair and we’re not just talkin’ about the ladies either. Men, we’re coming for your unkempt hair.

In fact, we’ve employed the help of American Crew®’s All Star Challenge winner, Melbourne barber Stephanie Pfalzgraf, to talk us through the men’s hair trends that are set to be popping off in 2022.

The men's hair colour trends to look out for in 2022

According to Pfalzgraf it’s all about “bright, bold, plus super clean colours” as well as “patterns like leopard print.”

Think the “grunge/punk heavy looks that were prominent at Milan and Paris Men's Fashion Week,” says the barber. “There were no limits regardless of whether the hair was left long or shaved, but dyeing was essential.”

The men's haircuts and styles that will be popular in 2022

If you’re a straight-laced square, it might be time to switch up your look. Because according to Pfalzgraf, “edgier and gender-fluid looks are on the rise.”

What should you be asking your barber for? “Mods, solid shapes like longer bowl cuts, and heavy fades,” are on the menu for men in 2022 she says.

“We are definitely stepping away from polished looks.” Sorry, dad.

The 2021 trends that will still hold up in 2022

Some men’s hair trends from this year are still going to pack a serious punch come 2022, says Pfalzgraf, especially if your hair has been influenced by COVID-19. “Growing out one's hair or shaving it completely has been undeniably in vogue over the last 15 months,” explains the barber. “That is owed in part to the fact that barbers and hairdressers were closed for long stretches.”

You can still expect to see styles that reflect this undone look, she assures us. “I strongly believe that we will see a mix of the extremes: Longer hairstyles and super short, radical looks.”

That means if you’ve been rocking “shags, mullets, ‘90s curtain hairstyles or mods AKA alternative looks,” you’re on the right track.
