7 beauty trends we spotted at the 2019 Met Gala

Met Gala 2019 Beauty Trends - Emma Stone

Your beauty look is about to get a whole more interesting

Beauty Crew Contributing Editor / May 08 2019

The Met Gala is a unique red carpet event. The weird and wonderful looks the celebs and their glam squads come up with year after year is awe-inspiring and one-of-a-kind. That said, there were some clear beauty trends that emerged from the Camp: Notes On Fashion Costume Institute Gala and we can’t wait to try them IRL.

Here are the top seven beauty trends as spotted on the 2019 Met Gala red carpet.

#1 / Glitter eyes

Gal Gadot

Awkwafina

Zoe Saldana

If you’ve ever wondered how to wear glitter the grown-up way, there was plenty of inspiration on the Met Gala red carpet. From Emma Stone’s silver glittery winged eyeliner to Awkwafina’s all-in gilded eye makeup look, or Gal Gadot’s subtly shining glitter dust under her eyes, get ready for glitter to make a return to the spotlight.

#2 / Pink highlighter

Hailey Bieber

Zendaya

Josephine Skriver

It seems like blush and highlighter got together and decided they’d have more impact if they joined forces, and we’d have to agree. The luminosity and pretty pink hue positively glistened off the cheekbones of Hailey Bieber, Zendaya and Josephine Skriver. And we know the perfect product for the job: Fenty Beauty Killawatt Freestyle Highlight in Wattabrat.

#3 / Two-tone eyes

Katie Holmes

Camila Mendes

Celine Dion

Colourful eye makeup has been making the rounds for a little while now (as seen here, here and here), so it was only a matter of time before celebrity makeup artists decided it was time to step things up a notch. The 2019 Met Gala was that day. Instead of relying on the bold pigment of one colour, it was all about pairing two together. And the effects were definitely twice as good.

#4 / Wet hair

Kim Kardashian

Emma Stone

Sophie Turner

The ‘wet look’ is back, but this time it’s less sopping wet. It’s about looking fresh from the shower or ocean post-towel dry so your natural hair texture is showing through. Effortless yet effective, just the way we like it.

#5 / Winged eyeliner

Elle Fanning

Nina Dobrev

Bella Hadid

The winged eyeliner never really went anywhere, but you probably only turn to it every now and again. Well, be inspired to work it back into your regular routine, and make it more cutting-edge than classic this time around. Add some colour to make it pop, or go for a glossy, glimmery sheen over your lids for a romantic twist. Celebs who got on board the winged eyeliner trend at the Met Gala: Hailey Bieber, Elle Fanning, Riley Keough, Bella Hadid, Taylor Hill, Alicia Vikander, Nina Dobrev, Halsey… yep, it was *everywhere*.

#6 / Eye jewels

Lucy Boynton

Pom Klementieff

Abbey Lee Kershaw

You will never have an excuse for boring makeup ever again - the Met Gala was the event that just kept on giving in the eye makeup department. The one trend that will really make you stand out from the rest is eye jewels. A simple jewel on the inner and outer corners of the eyes à la Bella Hadid will suit makeup minimalists, while those who aren’t shy should take their cues fro Abbey Lee Kershaw, Lucy Boynton, Pom Klementieff and Lupita Nyong’o who didn’t hold back in the slightest.

#7 / Pink eye makeup

Emma Roberts

Lily Aldridge

Dakota Johnson

Oh for the love of pink! If there was one product that got the biggest workout on the Met Gala red carpet, it was hands-down pink eyeshadow. All your favourite Victoria’s Secret models (Taylor Hill, Lily Aldridge, Gisele, Josephine Skriver, Winnie Harlow) went pink, as well as Emma Roberts, Lili Reinhart, Dakota Johnson, Madelaine Petsch...the list goes on! There was pretty, there was edgy, there was ALL the proof you need that pink eye makeup is super versatile and here to stay.
