Disappointing outcome.

I go through my compact foundations more quickly than the liquids as I tend to apply my makeup on the go – in fact I often apply make-up after I get to work – so I am always on the look-out for a new replacement. I was interested in this new offering from Nyx as I haven’t tried much of their make-up before and this was a convenient powder foundation, as I then thought. I chose the shade Natural which was the only possible choice I could have made – annoyingly my local Priceline stocks only THREE of the 24 shades Nyx make. Excited to try it, I sat down with my new compact, and felt as though I had lost my hands – no applicator sponge! Having found an applicator in my make-up bag, I was ready to apply but – what’s this? No mirror in the lid either? I trotted off to find a mirror and was finally in business. I was now ready to apply Can’t Stop Won’t Stop over my primer, but after all of that I was SO disappointed with the result. The formula seems velvety but was quite patchy when I applied it and seemed to settle in any little dry area and emphasize the pores and fine lines. For some reason it was caking quite badly around the nose area and I had to do a lot of work to buff this away. The next time, I tried it with a different, non-silicone primer and a buffing brush, with almost the same result. After this I waited after applying the primer to ensure it was completely dry – this finally stopped the caking but it’s still hard to blend – I use a brush followed by a beauty blender -and the finish is not very flattering for my drier skin. It doesn’t actually say so, but as a matte foundation it’s probably one I would recommend for oily/combination skin. I suspect it might have been better with a lighter shade, which was not available and is hardly Nyx’s fault. So unfortunately, I won’t be repurchasing this foundation for myself, as I know there are other even more budget-friendly compact foundations out there which suit me better. The lack of a mirror and applicator also makes it super inconvenient for a compact foundation. It may be worth a try if you have oily skin.
