“I’m in blue heaven with this trend,” says makeup boss Napoleon Perdis. A blue palette with shades from electric to navy is this season’s must-wear trend. “It’s a totally modern, youthful and cool look, and it’s also an insider secret to help tired eyes look fresh, as blue counteracts yellow tones in the whites of the eyes.”
It may feel “unconventional,” says Marc Jacobs’s global makeup artist Gilbert Soliz, but blue “really does help to enhance your eyes.” He notes that “a deeper shade is more flattering and suits all eye colours.” You should apply it “along the lash line, close to the root of the lashes, or smudge it. The lighter the colour, the more you will reference the 1970s and ’80s.” Highlighting eyes with blue switches things up and creates a nice pop of colour for night, adds Soliz. On cheeks and lips opt for neutral colours and let your eyes reign.
“For a more subtle look, apply just to the inner corners of the eye and add lashings of black mascara,” adds Perdis.
Take your cue from these celebs who recently experimented with blue tones – all with envious eye-popping results!
Opting for a metallic navy shade along her lower lash line, Margot Robbie offset the smoky look with a champagne colour on top, which made her eyes appear even bigger and brighter.
Using a shimmering periwinkle shade only part of the way along her lower lash line, Emma's combo of purple and blue is bold, and yet somehow still feminine and elegant.
Chloë Grace Moretz
There's no denying Chloe nails the blue eyeliner trend with this bold, all-around eye makeup look that demands attention!
If you thought solo blue eyeliner along the lower lash line couldn't be done, think again. Olivia proves it can look elegant and edgy, all at once.
Emma's royal blue eyeliner adds a bright statement to her pared-back makeup, and makes the whites of her eyes look even whiter.
