The secret to nailing the lived-in hair trend

It’s actually pretty simple

According to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, choppy, texturised locks are the new must-have, with many designers opting for fuss-free lived-in hair this year (we’re looking at you We Are Kindred, Alice McCall and Mariam Seddiq).

And we’re totally into it TBH. It sits somewhere in-between that boho textured look and soft grungy Puberty Blues-styled locks and looks so effortlessly cool it hurts.

Just take a look at this little slice of texturised heaven:

MBFWA - We Are Kindred

Pretty, huh? This signature hairstyle features a slight wave and volume with a wispy fly-away, creating a soft feminine, ‘girl next door’ style. It’s the perfect ‘done, undone’ look and we guarantee you’re about to see it *everywhere*.

The best part? Achieving this hairstyle is much simpler than you think. It all comes down to one star product: a little bottle of texturising powder.

According to Redken Hair Director Marie Cain, texturising powder is the key product you’ll need in your hair kit to create that instant volume and lift spotted on the We Are Kindred MBFWA 2019 runway.

“Our key products for today are the new Redken Triple Dry 15 Texture Finishing Spray, and the Redken Dry Shampoo Powder 02, to really dust out the hair and make it matte. The girls are wearing a gloss on their lids, so it’s really important that the texture on their hair is a little more matte and fly-away. So these two products are perfect for that,” says Cain.

Glossy skin, matte hair. Note taken!

Cain applied the new Redken Dry Shampoo Powder 02 through the mid-lengths and ends, giving it a scrunch to create a volumising effect with a light fly-away.

“The key thing is to also brush it out with a soft bristle brush, allowing those fly-aways to come through, so when you walk down the runway the light will pick up on that,” says Cain.

While we’re not going to be walking down the MBFWA runway any time soon, Cain’s tip still applies if you want to achieve natural texture and movement.

Cain then finished the hair look by applying the Redken Triple Dry 15 Texture Finishing Spray, which worked to hold the hairstyle without that annoying crunchiness or sheen.

It’s almost TOO simple.
