If working in beauty has taught us anything, it’s that the most outrageously priced items are, nine times out of 10, *really* good.

One such exxy item that has amassed a hoard of fans among celebrities and makeup artists is the Sisley Nutritive Lip Balm, which retails for a cool $90 here in Australia.

Containing a blend of hazelnut, plum kernel and sunflower oils, as well as kokum and shea butters, it’s no wonder A-listers can’t seem to get enough of the ultra-hydrating formula that promises to soften, smooth and plump lips.

Drew Barrymore is one such fan. In fact, she included the lip balm in her #beautyjunkie photo series challenge on Instagram. Donned in eye patches and a face mask, Drew topped off her hydrating Monday morning masking sesh with the offering from Sisley to prep her lips for the day.

In an interview with the New York Times, Salma Hayek admitted that although she doesn’t wear a lot of makeup when she’s not working, she will “throw a Sisley lip balm in my purse” when she’s out and about.

Lady Gaga’s longtime makeup artist Sarah Vanno always keeps the balm in her kit and, as a result, it’s also become a staple in Gaga’s beauty routine. According to Today, Vanno layers the lip balm under Gaga’s lipstick for a smooth and plump pout.

Another celebrity makeup artist, Amber Dreadon, told StyleCaster she can’t get enough of the stuff, saying Sisley’s lip balm is so good at rehydrating dry lips that she likes to use it on herself for long-haul flights: “It’s clear and works on all skin tones, plus it stays on while it hydrates so there’s no need to continuously reapply. I always have this in my carry-on bag when flying so I can apply it before taking a nap, and my lips stay soft and smooth.”

Expensive lip balms seem to be having a real moment. Shay Mitchell can’t live without this luxe La Mer lip balm.
