VIDEO: Recreate Kendall Jenner’s makeup

Victor Henao reveals how he created her daring smoky eye look

Beauty Crew Digital Content Director / January 19 2017

When it comes to makeup rules, we’re always preaching that you can’t do strong eyes and lips, but in the video above, Victor Henao, Global Director of Makeup Design for Estée Lauder, shows us how to break the rules and get the knock-out look he created on it-girl Kendall Jenner.

The secret to creating balance with this look is to keep the eye as strong as the bottom

1

Create your base

For a long-lasting foundation, apply Estée Lauder Double Wear Makeup and a touch of concealer as needed. If you’re not confident about applying a strong eye look, complete this step after you’ve finished your eye makeup and you’ve removed any eyeshadow fallout with makeup removing wipes.

2

Line your eyes

Start your smoky eye look by applying Estée Lauder Double Wear Infinite Waterproof Eyeliner in Blackend Onyx along the upper lash line and waterline. Don’t worry about being too precise, as you will blend this out later.

3

Add intensity with eyeshadow

Next take Estée Lauder SuperNoir Shadow & Liner in Blackest Black and smudge it along the lashline, again not worrying about being too precise. Using Estée Lauder Blending Shadow Brush or your fingertip, blend the liner up towards your eye socket. Be sure to move quickly before the liner sets.

Use black eyeshadow

4

Blend, blend, blend

Now, it’s time to create the smoky effect using Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Eyeshadow 5-Colour Palette in Savage Storm. First, use the dark grey shade and, using the Blending Brush, blend it all over the lid to create a sheer wash of colour. Then apply the black shade along your lash line for more intensity. Finally take the brown shade and blend it along the crease and to the inner corner of the eye to diffuse the look.

TIP: To check to see if you’ve applied enough shadow, open your eyes and look into the mirror. You may need to blend a little more of the grey shade along the socket if the intensity isn’t strong enough.

5

Define your lower lash line

Repeat steps two and three along your lower lash line and then blend the black shadow over the top to create the smoky look.

6

Shade with bronzer

Blend the edges of your smoky eye with Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Powder Bronzer. This will help to connect these dark shades to your skin tone and make your eye colour ‘pop’.

7

Amplify your lashes

Define your lashes with layers of Estée Lauder Sumptuous Knockout Defining Lift and Fan Mascara. The innovative bristles cross-cross to really comb out and define every lash.

TIP: Create a beautiful fanned effect with your lashes by combing the mascara outwards on the edges and inwards when you’re working closer to your nose.

8

Define your lips

Trace and fill in your lips with Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Lip Pencil in a shade that matches your natural lip tone.

9

Add colour to your lips

Using the applicator, take your time to precisely apply Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Liquid Lip Potion in Defiant Coral.

10

Enhance your cheeks

Add a light dusting of the bronzer you used earlier to the cheeks and follow with a hint of Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Blush in Peach Passion.
