A sneak-peek at celebs getting their Oscars hair and makeup done

Our favourite 'get ready with me' moments from the 2019 Academy Awards

Beauty Crew Contributing Editor / February 25 2019

We love an awards show red carpet, especially when it’s THE biggest night in the calendar - the Oscars. We have so much appreciation for all the hours and all the people it takes to get all that hair and makeup looking just right. That’s why we’re so obsessed with seeing what goes on behind the scenes before the celebs even make it to the red carpet.

And thanks to social media, there is never any shortage of sneak-peeks into how their looks came together. At this year’s 91st Academy Awards, the celebs (and their glam squads) weren’t shy about sharing. Here they are getting ready.

Heidi Klum

Heidi shared a time-lapse video of her hair and makeup team getting her ready from start to finish. Just some of the products we spotted being used were a CHANEL foundation (we’re pretty sure it was the CHANEL Perfection Lumière Velvet), a Marc Jacobs Beauty compact, and a Dyson Supersonic hair dryer. Our favourite part: seeing Heidi opt to curl her own lashes.

Emilia Clarke

We love the pretty-in-pink makeup look Emilia's makeup artist Jillian Demspey created for her. Dempsey revealed that she used Dolce & Gabbana makeup products to create the look, including Dolce & Gabbana Dolcissimo Matte Liquid Lipcolor in Pink 5 for that statement lip. Emilia's hairstylist Jenny Cho completed her look with a sleek and simple hairstyle that showed off her elegant new hair, which Emilia recently had dyed from blonde to brunette and cut into a sharp bob.

Gemma Chan

It was all about the glow with Gemma's Oscars makeup. She shared this beautiful finished-result snap of her makeup as her hairstylist made the final touches to her hair.

Charlize Theron

Nothing like a last-minute haircut before gracing the red carpet! Charlize's hairstylist Adir Abergel shared this behind-the-scenes shot of her haircut in process. He also mentioned in another Instagram post that they had dyed Charlize's hair brunette a few days prior for the big event.

Laura Harrier

Laura's dewy skin and punchy makeup was all thanks to a team of CHANEL beauty products, and the work of celebrity makeup artist Hung Vanngo.

Awkwafina

We love it when the pros share *exactly* how they created their celebrity looks. Hairstylist Anh Co Tran included all the steps and products he used to style Awkwafina's straight hair into beautiful beach waves.

Constance Wu

Talk about a power lip colour. While it was makeup artist Molly Greenwald who was behind Constance's classic makeup look, it was celebrity makeup artist Pat McGrath's own makeup brand, Pat McGrath Labs, that was used to create the look. And McGrath ever-so-kindly shared ALL the steps and products to replicate the look.

Helen Mirren

Trust Helen Mirren to be THE celebrity who's not afraid to share a makeup-free selfie mid-blow-dry.

Lucy Boynton

For Lucy Boynton's Grace Kelly-inspired look, her makeup artist Jo Baker said, "I wanted her to look timelessly beautiful, like a 2019 Grace Kelly. I had to make sure the colour I added was dreamy and glowy, not overpowering." To get the look she used Chantecaille products, including Chantecaille Future Skin in Porcelain, Chantecaille Mermaid Eye Matte in Sylvie, and Chantecaille Lip Chic in Wisteria.
