6 celeb-approved updos you’ll want to copy this season
Because wearing your hair up is always a great idea

Great news guys - your neck is about to get a whole load of extra breathing room, because the updo is having a MAJOR moment in the spotlight.
*Insert collective cheering*
Whether you’re a fan of the classic low bun, a chic ballerina ‘do, or an intricate braided updo, a stylish upstyle can literally transform your entire beauty look from relaxed to royal in a matter of seconds (Meghan Markle, we’re onto you!).
If you need some hair ideas for your next night out (or are looking for special occasion or wedding hairstyles to bookmark), you need to file away these stunning celebrity red carpet updos from Time’s '100 Most Influential People of The Year’ gala.
Taylor Swift made a return to the red carpet and looked like an actual VISION. The singer opted for a whimsical updo, with face-framing tendrils, a braid (check out our tips on braiding here) and texturised bangs, which made for a chic look. She tied it all together with a sparky floral headband (proof hair accessories are sticking around this season!).
While we’re *always* here for a simple ponytail or easy topknot, we love seeing Hollywood A-listers experiment and switch things up! And Sandra Oh is no exception (we're still coming down from her high bun/curly hair combo from this year's SAG Awards). The star brought a stylish ‘80s-inspired crop to the table – and we’re ALL about it. Her curly locks were coiffed in an edgy and stylish high updo (we're thinking a truckload of bobby pins may be at work), with her fringe left long and textured at the front. Notice how her sides are kept slicked back and neat? We think this makes for a fearless look.
If you have long hair, you need to take your cues from Martha Hunt. The model absolutely stunned with this tousled, messy updo that just oozes cool. She had her hair styled in a relaxed low ponytail (we’ll forgive you for thinking it was a low chignon or half-up hairstyle from the front!), and pulled tendrils loose from her pony to soften her entire beauty look. This messy-yet-elegant look is absolutely gorgeous and it’s so darn easy it hurts.
If you're not a fan of the ol' messy bun, take your inspo from Brie Larson. The Captain Marvel star swept her golden tresses into a slick low bun to reveal her stunning features and glowing complexion. Her sleek and simple hairstyle also featured a deep side part, giving a different take on the classic ballerina bun. For all the short haired gals out there – this easy updo is a great option that’ll take seconds to recreate!
For something timeless, you can’t go wrong with a centre-parted bun with loose tendrils. Sophia Bush opted for this classic yet elegant updo, smoothing her brunette locks back in a mid-height bun – and it just works. If you suck at braiding (guilty!), this is all the proof you need that you don’t always need to go intricate and fancy for a special event. If you're looking for the perfect wedding updo - this could be The One!
In another ‘less is more’ style, Julianne Moore wore her fiery locks in a low bun with a deep side part (Emma Stone wore a super similar look at this year's Oscars). Although we’re big fans of Julianne’s signature waves, this particular style allowed her next-level complexion (seriously, WHAT is she using on her skin?!) to take centre stage. Easy hairstyles that look insanely good? Yes, please.
