'Euphoria' star Hunter Schafer reveals her biggest beauty mistake

And why she's glad she made it

First of all, we'd like to go on record saying that we don't think there's a beauty look on this planet that Hunter Schafer couldn't rock. Having already established herself as a beauty icon mere years into her acting career (a breakout role as one of Euphoria's most electric characters will do that), she's proven her ability to pull off everything from the show's iconic glitter aesthetic to a literal spider decal on her face (her Met Gala look did not disappoint).

According to Schafer herself, however, there is one look that she's not quite sure suited her. “I went through a period where I had my brows bleached and perhaps I looked like Rufus the rat from Kim Possible,” she explained in an interview with Glamour UK. “I guess I looked kind of crazy. Maybe it didn't work for my face? But there we go.” A phenomenal throwback reference, of course, but TBH we still think she looked downright angelic.

Still, even if hindsight says, ‘that wasn’t necessarily for you’, Schafer’s not down with labelling something a through and through regret if you loved it at the time. “At the same time, I still love a bleach brow and if it didn't feel like a mistake on the day then was it really?”

Well, judging by the pics (Schafer can be seen showing off aforementioned bleached brows in a 2019 Vera Wang bridal campaign shot by photographers Inez & Vinoodh), they were a pretty fabulous faux pas at the very least.

But while eyebrows may be off Schafer's ‘most likely to experiment with’ list for the time being, eyes remain at the very top. “An eye look is where I feel most comfortable experimenting, cause I feel like they're so expressive already. It's where expression belongs on the face,” she added.

“Creating shapes or designs around my eyes is one of my favourite things to do and makes me feel like I've done something to express myself. Even just creating a really yummy combination of colours with different eye shadows is cool.”

“My makeup and hair is based around my mood. It really depends on the day,” the star shared re: her approach to beauty, noting that her love for makeup actually stems from an obsession with a lip gloss ring from way back in her primary school days.

“Back in kindergarten we used to have this treasure box that someone got to pick something out of at the end of every week. When it was my turn, I found this little lip gloss ring in there and I wore it probably for like the rest of the school year. It had this glittery clear gloss in it that I would always put on. I didn't even know what it was at the time, but I thought it was really cute.”

We owe that lip gloss ring a lot; without it our makeup moodboards may have been lacking Schafer’s (hefty) contribution, and that would just be downright devastating...
