Lizzo is a beauty icon and these outstanding looks prove it

“How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.”

BEAUTYcrew Beauty Editor / December 13 2022

Lizzo is a woman of many talents; from belting out hit after hit, to glowing like a literal star in the night sky whenever she hits the red carpet, the lady keeps us entertained 24/7 and she looks damn good doing it too.

The 34-year-old has taken over TikTok with her hilarious antics and when she’s not making us laugh so hard we almost wet ourselves, the Grammy Award winning artist also likes to bombard us with a slew of experimental beauty looks that leave us stunned time after time. With a glam squad that includes celebrity MUA Alexx Mayo and hairstylist Shelby Swain AKA “The Beyonce of Baby Hair”, it’s not hard to see why she’s continually resetting the bar for creative makeup and hair looks.

Mayo in particular likes to take cue from history when crafting some of Lizzo’s most iconic moments. Case in point, her recent Variety cover as a ‘20s flapper, which you can view HERE. Mayo somehow managed to transform Lizzo’s full arches into pencil thin brows that perfectly articulate the beauty trend of the time. The A-list makeup artist modernised the look with a lid-ful of frosty blue eyeshadow. Iconic.

We’ve taken the liberty of trolling through Lizzo’s social media in an effort to find the pop star’s most innovative moments in beauty so you don’t have to (easiest job of our life TBH).

Join us, as we revel in the glory that is Lizzo.

Glam makeup extraordinaire

No one does a glam makeup moment quite like Lizzo. We don’t know what it is about the popstar but something very special happens when MUA Mayo gets his hands on a palette of rich neutrals and eye-catching metallics. From her delicious chocolate brown smokey eye for the 2021 Grammy Awards, to her gold cat eye in her “Rumors” music video, we’re obsessed with ‘Glam Lizzo’.

And the Lord said “let there be length”

In case you didn’t know, Lizzo is a glamazon of a woman – no, literally, she’s 5’ 10”. Bearing this in mind, it should come as no surprise that she’s fond of hair with a little extra length. From long cascading waves of bleach blonde mermaid tresses to ombre and fire engine red braids for pool-side lounging, this woman can pull off exaggerated lengths with ease. We’d encourage you to try the trend but unless you’re statuesque like Lizzo, there’s a very high chance you’re going to look like cousin IT. Sorry, not sorry.

Experimental hairstyles

Considering Lizzo creates music that can’t be categorised, it’s no surprise her hair choices follow the same vein of eclecticism as her back catalogue. Whether she’s donning a '60s mod pony (just like Ariana Grande, who of course joined her on the iconic "Good As Hell" remix), wearing nostalgic ‘Aunty’ wigs or strutting down the red carpet with sculptural pieces of art on her head – the Taurean executes each style with ease.

As for the latest look that made us do a double take? The 34-year-old went festive and fully embodied Mrs Grinch with a green wig that could rival even Martha May Whovier’s tallest top knot. Cindy Lou Who?

Unexpected makeup moments

From the beginning of her career, Lizzo has been unafraid of dipping her toes into creative waters when it comes to makeup. But ever since the “Good As Hell” singer started collaborating with celebrity makeup artist Alexx Mayo, we’ve been blessed with a litany of out of the box eye makeup looks, and we need to talk to someone about it. We knew we loved coloured mascara before Lizzo wore it but after seeing her peepers covered in a monochromatic blue that covered her lids and lashes, it’s all we want to wear. Remember when she schooled us on the versatility of bleached eyebrows and painted hers purple? #neverforget. Or how about when she leans into makeup trends of the ‘60s and presents us with avant-garde eye makeup looks that could appear in the pages of VOGUE? Iconic.

Statement hair accessories

Lizzo may be larger than life in everything she does but she’s also not one to forget the small details – namely, hair accessories. From hair installs that look like literal butterfly aviaries to over exaggerated hair clips and buoyant balloon braids, the skilled flute player knows just how to pop the cherry on top of the very delicious piece of cake that she is.

Another pop star who’s got the juice? Billie Eilish – this is her complete beauty evolution to date.
