While we love the Oscars red carpet for its glamorous hair and makeup looks, it’s the Met Gala red carpet arrivals we look forward to most. Widely known as fashion’s night of nights, the occasion calls for daring, bold, and out-there looks - in both the beauty and clothing departments - and we can’t help but love when our favourite celebs swap their usual glowing, natural and safe beauty looks for something a bit more adventurous.
Here are our favourite beauty risk-takers from the 2017 Met Gala red carpet.
We love that Selena paired this striking pink hue with a horizontal application for maximum effect. Finishing it off with a sleek lob and neutral lip was an excellent decision.
Rita Ora’s go-to red lips and defined lashes were taken to the next level with this platinum blonde, slicked-down boy cut. How gorgeous is the intricate design of her ‘do?
Supermodel Karlie Kloss chopped off her long honey locks for the occasion, and showed off this edgy platinum bob. No word yet if this is the real deal or not, but we’re going to place bets on it being a wig. Either way, we love it!
Why wear a smoky eye when you can wear a super smoky eye? Downton Abbey star Lily James has inspired us to take our black eyeshadow that little bit higher and darker.
Usually one for more of an au naturel look, Katie Holmes stunned with this navy and turquoise eye makeup look. Bonus points for using different colours on her lids and bottom lash line.
Big natural hair was fairly common on the Met Gala red carpet, and Zendaya pulled it off beautifully. We love the fullness and the texture, but we mostly love how well it works with her popping orange lip.
The Love, Rosie actress showed off a gothic-chic beauty look with this combination of a blunt jet black bob, oxblood lips, and babydoll lashes - all against an alabaster complexion.
And on the other end of the spectrum, we have this angelic look from Kate Hudson. We hope this ash white hair isn’t the work of a temporary colour, because we think she pulls it off amazingly.
Cara recently shaved her head for a movie, and what better way to show it off than by covering her newly-bald scalp with a slick of silver and some jewelled accents. While not something you’d see on the street everyday, the model-turned-actress makes it work!
Most tend to shy away from pink or burgundy eyeshadow, but model Taylor Hill went full force with this daring eye makeup look, and it paid dividends for her.
