Tiny in size yet incredibly potent and powerful, the ampoule is a Korean beauty product that's seen a serious makeover, and is a product that's certainly worth adding to your skin care routine this season. We first saw them in the K-beauty space, with Korean skin care brands like COSRX, Mizon and Propolis bringing out the baby-sized serums, and now they’re absolutely everywhere.
What makes ampoules a must-have in your skin care line-up is their ability to target a particular skin concern, such as improving elasticity, reducing fine lines or brightening your complexion. We know what you’re thinking - isn’t that what a serum does? Sure, but the texture of what’s inside an ampoule has less viscosity, and therefore can be absorbed by skin more quickly.
They're also a cinch to use; all you need to do is twist it open, distribute a few drops into your hands, and massage the solution in. As for the order of applying it in your skin care routine, it goes on after your cleanser and toner, and before your regular serum, lotion or moisturiser.
Keen to add one to your routine? Here are some of the newest and best ampoules to hit shelves lately.
Best for: Combatting dullness
Vitamin C is one of the best ingredients when it comes to brightening skin and reducing the appearance of dark spots, so it was a no-brainer to include Elizabeth Arden Vitamin C Ceramide Capsules Radiance Renewal Serum in this mix. “The contents of [these capsules are] made with oil-based tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, which is 178 times more potent than traditional vitamin C [and can] help skin fight against free radicals,” says Philippa Curnow, National Training Manager for Elizabeth Arden. “Each capsule also contains vitamin E to keep the vitamin C stable, [as well as] ceramides to help the vitamin C penetrate deeper into the layers of skin.”
Best for: Improving elasticity
Looking to seriously give your skin a boost in texture? L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Filler [+Hyaluronic Acid] Ampoules have the ability to improve skin elasticity and make your skin look more plump in general thanks to the key ingredient, hyaluronic acid. This product recently received four stars from our Review Crew®. “[I] used this over a seven-day period and noticed a fantastic improvement in the general hydration, plumpness and overall texture of my skin,” says Serena, Review Crew® member.
Best for: Eliminating pigmentation
As the name of Skin Doctors potent vit. A ampoules suggest, these tiny capsules are loaded with the active ingredient vitamin A to improve skin cell turnover and reverse the signs of dullness for brighter and smoother-looking skin. They also increase collagen and elastin production. Best of all, these can be used on most skin types, including oily skin.
Best for: Layering under foundation
Besides the fact that Babor Ampoule Concentrates in Glow Addict contain hyaluronic acid (which we love for its hydrating powers), each mini container of supercharged serum features glow pigments to really brighten your complexion, and Perfection Peptide P3 to smooth and soften.
Best for: Nourishing dry skin
Thanks to ingredients like hyaluronic acid and collagen, NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler Instant Ampoules 4 Pack can quickly hydrate skin and make it look more lush and plump. We also can’t go past the price ($39.99) and the resealable ampoules.
Best for: Reducing the appearance of fine lines
Dr. LeWinn’s Line Smoothing Complex S8 Hyaluronic Acid Boosting Essence is a pack of five baby-sized serums that are loaded with hyaluronic acid, peptides and niacinamide to hydrate, address fine lines and wrinkles, and smooth uneven texture. Use the dropper to distribute a few drops into your palms, then massage the anti-ageing treatment into your face both morning and night to see results.
Best for: Added skin protection
You can’t go past mesoestetic pollution defense ampoules to protect your skin from daily environmental aggressors. Discover a powerful blend of antioxidants, niacinamide and croton lechleri resin extract in each of the tiny daily-use capsules, which work to improve cell function and increase the skin’s resilience against oxidative stress.
