Meet the 3-step skin care range that revived our editor's radiance

Hoorah for hydration

Editor / June 26 2023

If I could choose any word for friends, family, and onlookers to describe me with, it’d be ‘luminous’. But sadly (and here’s a hard truth to see in writing), I’m usually quite the opposite. Dealt the difficult ‘dry skin’ card, my complexion generally looks exactly how you’d imagine one lacking in moisture would: dull, dehydrated, and downright lifeless. Sad but true!

And so when the new Olay Luminous Hyaluron + Niacinamide range fell into my lap (or rather landed on my desk), I was thrilled to see the word ‘luminous’ in the title, and even more excited to try it…

The products

I love a lineup of products I can use in unison with each other - it just makes assessing results so much easier when everything’s working together. And that’s exactly what Olay’s new range offers - a trio of nourishing formulas designed to add much-needed luminosity and hydration to skin.

The range is made up of three products: the Olay Luminous Hyaluron + Niacinamide Gel Serum ($29.99 at Chemist Warehouse), the Olay Luminous Hyaluron + Niacinamide Gel Moisturiser ($29.99 at Chemist Warehouse), and the Olay Luminous Hyaluron + Niacinamide Eye Gel ($29.99 at Chemist Warehouse).

All three are tested by dermatologists and formulated with a beautifully lightweight texture, devoted to delivering non-sticky, fast-absorbing nourishment that takes skin like mine from lacklustre to luminous.

Wondering how they went when I added them to my radiance-replenishing repertoire? Let’s get down to the details…

Olay Luminous Hyaluron + Niacinamide Gel Serum, Gel Moisturiser & Eye Gel review

Firstly, let’s talk texture - it’s first on my list to rave about, because I’m a gel super fan. As someone whose skin also runs quite sensitive, I’m always partial to formulas that feel lightweight but still do some major heavy-lifting in the hydration stakes. Gels (which are far less irritating/intense than creams) are perfect for stocking up on moisture without overwhelming your complexion, and that's why I crave 'em. Basically, Olay's Luminous Hyaluron + Niacinamide range was off to a good start with me, simply by existing in gel form.

The gel serum feels like silk on the skin, with the dropper dispensing the ideal amount every time. It’s not an ‘oily’ serum in the slightest, leaving my face noticeably more glowy, but nowhere near greasy. While there’s no bad kind of residue left on the skin, the ever-so-slightly pearlescent finish was greatly appreciated.

The gel moisturiser delivers a cooling, complexion-calming hit of hydration in the type of way that you can instantly feel. But while the cream sunk in nicely (AKA was both non-sticky and fast absorbing), it felt like it made an actual difference, with my face still feeling happy (instead of its usual ‘tight and dry’) hours later. There was more ‘bounce’ and movement to it, and it felt delightfully silky-soft to the touch. Big wins!

As for the eye gel, let’s just say that while applying it, I swear I heard my tired, puffy under-eyes breathe an audible sigh of relief. Eye-specific formulas have always been a tricky category for me as (again) mine are on the sensitive side, but the soothing gel sunk in quickly and offered comfort instead of irritation. In other exciting news, my eye area appeared brighter from just the second day of use, too. Take that, dark circles!

None of the products feature heavy fragrance, either, which is another blessing for dry, sensitive skin types - they simply smell as fresh as they feel (and make you look). Speaking of looking fresh, why yes, I did start to spy a visibile uplift in radiance (across the board) about three days into my new routine.

The verdict

This is a trio I’ll be both raving about and reapplying for some time to come - I love the feel of the formulas, I love the ease of using one range, and best of all, I love the benefits (especially for the bargain prices, with each clocking in at less than $30).

My face feels adequately hydrated even in the depths of winter, and I’ve seen some of my tone and texture concerns (namely dullness and lack of plumpness) noticeably corrected. I’m telling you, you’ll want to try this luminising lineup pronto…
