Riley Keough’s “excessive” skin care routine caters to her body AND her face

Wait ‘til you see her ‘weird’ scrub hack…

If you’ve read Daisy Jones & The Six, you’ll know that the titular character is basically described as being the most beautiful person on the planet. And so it makes perfect sense that the ridiculously gorgeous Riley Keough was the right actor for the role in the highly-anticipated television adaption.

So aside from stellar genetics (as Elvis Presley's granddaughter, Keough definitely inherited the family good looks), how does she secure such a radiant glow?

Well, it turns out skin care is quite the passion project for Keough; when her filming schedule permits, she’s deep in the self-care game. “If I wasn’t an artist and performer, I’d be an esthetician; I swear, it’s my favourite thing,” the actor revealed in a Vogue video. “I would say I do this excessive skin care routine a couple times a week.”

Keen to copy Keough’s "excessive" steps (and find out what makes said regimen so excessive)? Here’s her exact skin care routine…

Riley Keough’s skin care routine

Step 1: Facial steam

Keough starts with a facial steam to purify and plump her skin. “First, I’ll turn my face steamer on [and] I’ll just have it on throughout my skin care routine. I have a tendency to get dry, so this really helps me stay hydrated,” Keough revealed. While she didn’t name a specific steamer brand, the Lumae Skin Halo Nano-Ionic Facial Steamer ($108 at Myer) is a winning option to try.

Step 2: Cleanse

“Next I’ll wash my face. I have this [The] Organic Pharmacy Carrot Butter Cleanser ($66 at Selfridges),” she shared, shouting out her beloved buttery balm. “It’s very gentle; it gets all of my makeup off, which is very important for me.”

Step 3: Exfoliate

Next comes a product from a brand she's quite the fan of: Kate Somerville. “[To] exfoliate, I’ll use this Kate Somerville ExfoliKate [Intensive Exfoliating Treatment] ($163 at MECCA)," Keough noted. "It just makes my skin texture look much brighter and it also smells really good."

Step 4: Body scrub

The exfoliation doesn't stop there, though. “I [also] exfoliate my body – I wear a lot of makeup at work and I’ve been wearing a lot of body makeup [so] my skin texture is just looking kind of crazy," Keough admitted. "I use Kate Somerville’s ExfoliKate [Resurfacing Body Scrub] ($93 at MECCA)."

She even spilled her out-of-the-box tip for getting her skin extra smooth. "I do scrubs on dry skin, which is a little bit weird, but I feel like it scrubs me harder,” she laughed. “I’m [usually] a little bit red because I really scrub the living daylights out of myself [but] my skin feels so soft.”

Body care is actually a big part of Keough's routine. "I think the best skin care advice I’ve ever received is honestly taking care of your body," she revealed, noting that she does so inside and out. "For me, it was stopping dairy. I am plant-based mostly; that has really changed my skin. I sauna three times a week, sometimes more. I dry brush, I take a lot of baths, I bathe with Epsom salts, I detox a lot, I’ll take charcoal, I take turmeric, I take all kinds of vitamins." Whatever she's doing, it's clearly working.

Step 5: NuFACE

Okay, back to face. “Next I use my NuFACE [Trinity Device] ($540 at MECCA]. [It’s] my favourite little thing," Keough shared. "I just use [it with Aloderma] Pure Aloe Vera Gel ($32.14 at Amazon). It makes my face [feel] more awake and [look] tighter, and at work I can just see a difference on camera."

Step 6: Face oil

Keough's go-to face oil is quite the celeb fave, with Chrissy Teigen and Olivia Munn among the other famous (and radiant) faces that rely on its plankton extract and plant oil blend. “The [face oil] that I love is this MARA Universal Face Oil ($114.38 at Revolve]. I just pat it [in]," she confirmed.

Step 7: Eye cream

“I’m using the Kate Somerville KateCeuticals Lifting Eye Cream ($233 at MECCA). Eye cream is really important to me when I’m working because I don’t sleep a lot and it really shows on camera," explained Keough. "I already have a tendency to have dark circles under my eyes which I kind of like sometimes but they can get really intense. [I just] tap it really lightly under my eye." See, we told you she was a Kate Somerville fan...

Step 8: Moisturiser

One more! "I use Kate Somerville KateCeuticals Total Repair Cream ($233 at MECCA). I find it to be really moisturising [and] I’m obsessed with moisturising my skin," she shared. "I warm it up in my hands and then I pat it in on my face. You can really see immediately that it improves your skin texture."

Step 9: SPF

Keough's final step (during the day at least)? Sunscreen. “[I finish with] SPF,” she confirmed, applying the Supergoop Unseen Sunscren SPF40 ($60.37 at Revolve). “It’s a really nice texture, it kind of feels like a primer in a way. And I make sure that it’s everywhere.”

And that's how Riley Keough keeps her skin so fresh: brand loyalty, sun protection, and a whole lot of exfoliation. Excessive? Not to us fellow beauty freaks. Effective? Absolutely.
