Found! The best long-lasting lipsticks
From breakfast to bedtime, these lippies aren't going anywhere
Beauty Crew Contributing Editor / October 29 2018
If it isn’t long-lasting, is it even worth applying it? It’s definitely a tough call in our books. We love lipstick - the perfect shade can make your skin look brighter, your teeth appear whiter, and generally just puts you in a stellar mood in a single swipe - but we’re just not into reapplying it over and over throughout the day. So we entrusted the expert opinions of our Beauty Crew team and SUPERcrew members and asked them to share their pick for the best long-lasting lipstick. Something that looks good, feels good and doesn’t abandon you by lunchtime.
The votes are in: We’ve found the best long-lasting lipsticks in Australia. Go forth and stock up on *ALL* the shades and brands.
#10 / Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro
Silky on the lips with a rich colour pigment, your pout will look and feel pampered with this luxe lipstick. And it’s not going anywhere from morning to night so the only time you’ll give it any thought is when someone compliments you on the lip colour (trust us, it will happen a lot!).
The review: “My all-time favourite because it is super long-lasting for a good 8 hours. I apply in the morning, eat and drink throughout the day without needing to top up if I don't want to.” Helen, SUPERcrew member
#9 / Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick
This lipstick bullet goes on a lot like a creamy balm, but has a beautiful colour payoff. It’s not quite as intense as a liquid lipstick, but can be layered to the coverage you want - it’s ideal for those who like to wear colour but aren’t looking for a bold matte finish. You can thank shea butter and aloe for leaving your lips all soft and cared for.
The review: “This lipstick has a soft texture that glides on smoothly to give a natural matte finish, and it's one of the few lipsticks I've found that truly lasts all day, even after drinking and eating.” Dina, SUPERcrew member
#8 / Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick
Expect saturated colour that glides on with ease. This formula is practically weightless so while it won’t feel like it’s on, you can be sure the colour hasn’t budged. And the shades - they are as pigmented as they come.
The review: “I love the Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick as my go-to longwear lippy. I love the shades Grim (a stunning greige hue) and Sepia (a beautiful, warm toned yellow/brown). These are full-pigment liquid formulas that dry to a weightless matte finish and don't budge for hours (even when drinking/eating etc). They are very comfortable (hard to get with most formulas like this) and still maintain their wearability.” Jacqui, SUPERcrew member
#7 / Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour
Every swipe of this liquid lipstick delivers a vibrant colour that won’t budge for 12 hours. The finish is velvety matte, there are 23 shades to choose from, and the price is super affordable.
The review: “I love this, the colour stays on through drinks, eating and kissing. Definitely an all-day colour. I really like matte lipsticks and there aren't as many lip stain/long-wear colours that are true matte, whereas this is a gorgeous matte colour.” Georgia, SUPERcrew member
#6 / Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick
If you love how seamlessly glosses apply, you’ll loved this melted formula. It dries to a long-lasting finish that you’ve come to expect from matte formulas, but the addition of avocado oil and vitamin E mean it’s a treat on lips. And, it contains a lip-plumping ingredient known as Vollulip, as well as hyaluronic filling spheres to leave lips looking fuller.
The review: “This is honestly the best liquid lipstick I have ever used. The doe tipped applicator glides on like silk, the formula is non-drying and doesn’t transfer onto anything. Many hours after applying I still look fresh and perfectly applied. It is head, shoulders and lips above the rest.” Anne, SUPERcrew member
#5 / NYX Professional Makeup Full Throttle Lipstick
One of the most popular lipsticks on Pinterest in 2018, this lipstick delivers some serious staying power for something that costs less than $10. It goes on creamy but has a sophisticated matte finish, is highly pigmented and is transfer-proof and waterproof. It really does it all.
The review: “Not only does this lipstick boast long-wearing properties, the formula is actually waterproof, so there’s no chance of it budging even when you’re splashing about this summer.” Iantha Yu, Beauty Crew’s Beauty Editor
#4 / Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick
Long-lasting and it makes your lips look fuller, there is so much to love about this lipstick. The formula is hydrating and matte (yep, it’s possible!) and it has a square-angled tip that glides over the lips much like a lip brush for a precise application. Its best-selling shade is Pillow Talk (a nude-pink), which also happens to be the very lipstick and shade that Anna Heinrich wore on her wedding day.
The review: “This lipstick is a serious all-rounder – it’s bright, comfortable and actually stays on my lips. I usually steer away from wearing lipsticks because they always seem way too high commitment (so many touch-ups!), but this one is a real game-changer in my books! I can eat/drink/eat more and it won’t go completely MIA like 95 per cent of other lipsticks. I’ve definitely found my Holy Grail lippie!” Erin Docherty, Beauty Crew’s Contributing Beauty Writer
#3 / Kat Von D Beauty Everlasting Liquid Lipstick
This collection has a great range of nude lip colours (there’s literally one for every skin tone), but there’s also a whole spectrum of other shades, including a true red (Santa Sangre) and a neon turquoise named Dreamer for anyone who likes it bright and loud. We also give this lipstick our tick of approval for its vegan and cruelty-free formula that’s enriched with conditioning vitamin E and sunflower seed wax.
The review: “There’s certainly a lot to love about this liquid lipstick – it’s super long-lasting, feels comfortable on the lips, is a breeze to apply and comes in a whopping 42 shades. I already have three colours in my collection (Ophelia, Love Sick and Miss Argentina) and I can’t wait to add a couple more.” Kate Niven, Beauty Crew’s Beauty Writer
#2 / Maybelline New York SuperStay 24 Hour Lip Color
Our drugstore pick for the best long-wear lipstick would have to be Maybelline’s SuperStay 24 Hour Lip Color. Do we need a full 24 hours of colour coverage? Perhaps not, but it’s nice to know it’s an option! The formula won’t cake or flake and it keeps lips feeling comfortable while it paints them in a rich colour. We love the dual-ended applicator that has the liquid lipstick on one end and a nourishing balm on the other to look after your lips and give your colour a glossy finish.
The review: “Maybelline Superstay 24HR Lipstick (Keep up the Flame is my favourite shade!). This is my reliable, go-to liquid longwear lipstick. I have tried so many, but this is the only one that really doesn't need any touch-ups every few hours and it lasts while drinking and eating. Great selection of colours and doesn't dry out lips.” Milan, SUPERcrew member
#1 / NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment
If you like your lip colour to pack a mighty punch, meet your match. Matte but not at all drying, from the moment you apply this lip colour to well into the evening, it remains vibrant yet weightless on your lips. Take your pick from any of the 24 shades - they’re all stunning and striking.
The reviews: “You know how there are long-lasting lip colours that last...but only around the edges and you get this weird stained ring around your lips? So not the case with the Powermatte Lip Pigments. I’ve tried a few colours and they are consistently long-wearing across every inch of my lips. Once the formula sets, it pretty much stays until you have to remove it with a micellar water or an oil cleanser. And just a note on how it feels (we all know that sometimes a long-wearing lip colour is synonymous with dry lips): the formula won’t dry out your lips and is as comfortable on your lips as your lips felt before application.” Carli Alman, Beauty Crew’s Editor
“I absolutely adore NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment and it’s my go-to when I’m looking for something that will last the distance. It’s perfect for when I know I’ve got a big day ahead with no time for touch-ups, or for a night out when I’d rather just ‘set and forget’ my lip product. Application is totally fuss-free as well. You just swipe the lip gloss-style wand across your lips and it dries to a matte finish that won’t transfer - no many how cups of tea (or wines) you knock back. I’m really into the shade Call Me – it’s the most perfect coral pink and the colour is just as flirty as its name.” Isobel Larkin, Beauty Crew’s Beauty Assistant
If you have cracked lips and find matte formulas highlight dryness, we recommend sweeping MAC Prep + Prime Lips on before your lippie.
