What is the Italian Bob trend?

“Mi capisce?”

BEAUTYcrew Beauty Editor / February 24 2023

The term ‘Italian Bob’ was originally coined by Nick Latham and Sean Paul Nother (salon owners and founders of The Hair Brothers) back in 2021.

“Inspired by Hannah Kleit and Kaia Gerber we are sure that The Italian Bob will be a hit,” the pair explained via their Instagram

“[It’s] chunky ended, neck grazing, and long enough to tie up yet short enough to turn heads,” they went on to say. “[It] looks great in any parting and looks equally as beautiful when air-dried or blow-dried — we think this hair cut speaks for itself.”

“In his book, Italian Glamour, [Enrico] Quinto writes a great quote denoting the characteristics of Italian beauty,” Latham told GLAMOUR. “He says ‘Italian glamour is not sophisticated or artificial, it works in the same way as the idea of the Dolce Far Niente – the sweetness of doing nothing. It's an accessible beauty. Simple and natural.’”

But after the success of the second season of The White Lotus, the trend has evolved from a low-maintenance way to wear your hair into a first-class ticket to the Italian experience. Destination? Sicily.

If you haven’t seen the series, (what have you been doing with your life?) characters Lucia and Harper are the proud owners of effortlessly chic Italian bobs, and they possess the same accessible beauty Enrico Quinto writes about in Italian Glamour

And while Lucia and Harper are enjoying their trendsetting haircuts in the Sicilian sun, the beauty of the Italian bob is its versatility. The length and lack of layers that define the Italian bob would look just as chic paired with a tailored trench coat as they do poolside.

We didn’t see the Italian bob trend coming, but we did predict a few more hair trends we think you should try in 2023

Since then, her keen interest in fashion and beauty has landed her gigs as a Digital Content Producer and Beauty Editor with titles like Girlfriend, Refinery29, BEAUTYcrew and beautyheaven. She loves the way seemingly innocuous topics like skin care and style have the ability to put a smile on people’s faces or make them think about themselves a little differently. A big believer in self love and experimentation, Briar has made a point of becoming the Australian beauty industry’s unofficial guinea pig for unusual treatments and daring hair trends. When she’s not testing out the latest beauty launches, Briar is big on broadening her horizons, mostly in the form of food but she’s also partial to travelling to new destinations both near and far (and of course, allocating an extra bag to bring their best beauty offerings home with her).
