The 'slob' haircut is the autumn hair trend you need to know about

It’s easily the chicest trend of the season

If there’s one thing we know about the upcoming hair trends for autumn, it’s that bobs are in.

But unlike the disheveled short hair trends that have reigned supreme the last few months (Italian bob, wolf cut and cub cut, we’re looking at you), autumn 2023 is set to introduce a new era for a chic, polished haircut with a somewhat sarcastically coined moniker.

What is a ‘slob’ haircut?

While the ‘slob’ haircut may sound like an inspired invention of a lazy girl, it is in fact an ironic amalgamation of the words ‘sleek’ and ‘bob’.

It’s a one-length haircut that does away with unnecessary layers and subsequently excessive styling.

It’s the kind of chop that’s forgiving in between salon visits, flattering on a variety of hair textures, and frames an array of face shapes.

Celebrities with a ‘slob’ haircut

There’s an undeniable timelessness to the one-length cut, which is why it can’t be confined to just a few months out of the year.

Remember Rihanna’s curly bob from 2017? The singer’s elevated wet-look ringlets are just as perfect now as they were when she debuted them on the red carpet a few years back.

When we look forward in time and search for modern iterations of the ‘slob’ haircut, Hailey Bieber’s new easy breezy bob, Laura Harrier’s slicked back shoulder-grazing strands, and Cara Delevingne’s freshly-chopped wavy, bronde locks are all keenly defined examples.

How to style a ‘slob’ haircut

How you choose to style your ‘slob’ cut is entirely dependent on your hair texture and type.

If you’ve been blessed with waves or curls, hydrate and define the hair with weightless moisturisers that impart shine and lustre.

Fine hair? Utilise haircare that can be applied to damp strands, to encourage body and a lived-in texture.

If frizz and flyaways are perpetually f***ing up your dreams of chic hair, get your hands on lightweight, smoothing styling products.

Want a chic bob but don’t think the ‘slob’ haircut is quite right for you? The 'bubble bob' is a stellar short haircut.
