Milan Fashion Week Just Revived Three Major Throwback Hair Trends

Everything old really is new again

We love it when one of our favourite hair trends from a decade past is given new life.

If you’re also into a solid nostalgic hair trend, we’ve got good news. Milan Fashion Week Spring 2020 just came through with the goods, reviving not just one, but three of your favourite throwback hairstyles.

‘70s surf hair at Alberta Ferretti

‘70s beach-babe hair reigned supreme at Alberta Ferretti where models’ sun-kissed strands were left flowing freely with a hint of a wave. But unlike the textured, salty strands that may first come to mind when you think of beachy waves, Ferretti’s take on surf hair was slightly different.

“It’s freshly-washed beach hair. It’s got an airiness to it. Just cool and effortless,” hairstylist Duffy told Vogue. He created the style by blow-drying Wella's EIMI Perfect Setting Lotion into the hair and creating loose waves with a two-inch curling iron.

‘80s extravagant off-centre ponytails at Annakiki

You heard it here first: ‘80s hair is back, in a BIG way. Annakiki’s show debuted this oh-so-extra exaggerated ponytail and honestly, we never predicted this hairstyle would make such a strong comeback. But, after seeing Annakiki’s models rocking the look, we’re totally on board.

In a true ode to the ‘80s era, loads of volume was created through the crown before the ponytail was secured off to the side. This look couldn’t be more fun if it tried.

‘90s party-girl worm buns at Giorgio Armani

Over the last couple of years, we’ve seen the rebirth of ‘90s space buns at festivals around the world, and now, it’s time for their fun, younger sister to make a comeback, too… yes people, those quirky, twisty buns that you lovingly called ‘worm buns’ in the ‘90s are actually cool again!

And we’ll admit, we totally didn’t see this coming either, but there they were, in all their noughties glory at Giorgio Armani’s show. If you want to recreate this look at home, make sure you do the style justice and go the whole hog, twisting and securing your sections into ‘worms’ on top of the head – Armani would want you to.
