How to get Hailey Bieber's ‘cali-girl’ beach waves

“My go-to when I have the time to do it myself”

Hailey Bieber’s pretty head is home to a wealth of beauty insider information. From her near-perfect complexion that’s left us wondering how to get glowy, gorgeous skin like the model to magic makeup moments like her recent stint with holographic eyeliner, the girl’s got the lowdown on that good good and we want in.

Thankfully for the general peasantry, Bieber has her own YouTube channel and she’s just blessed us all with her go-to routine for those effortlessly cool beachy waves she’s always got going on: “I decided to go with this wavy textured hair for you guys because this is usually just my go-to when I have the time to do it myself,” the model explained in the tutorial. “If I was going out for dinner or going out for date night then this is typically the hair that I’m going to do for an evening of fun.”

“My vibe right now, especially with my hair, is I’ve been doing a lot of this more messy, undone lived in [vibe, and] to me it’s fine if it’s not perfect glossy waves,” she said.. “So, if it wasn’t this then it’s something that’s usually pulled back, like slicked back in either like a low bun or pulled up and out of my face. I love a good chip clip.” #relatablequeen.

Get your notepad at the ready kids, this is how to recreate Hailey Bieber’s go-to California cool-girl beach waves...

Volumise

“Step one would be spraying some volumising spray into my wet hair before I blow-dry it. I really love this Ouai Volume Spray ($40 at Sephora),” Bieber explained. “It’s the best, it smells amazing. Shout out to Jen Atkin. Next thing is blow-drying your hair, which I already did.”

Texturise & Tong

Next up, Bieber adds some much-needed texture to her freshly blow-dried hair using IGK Beach Club Volume Texture Spray ($44 at Sephora): “I’m going to take a texturising spray through my hair and all over.”

“I like texturising spray before I go in with my clip to clip my hair up, and then I’m going to start by taking it piece by piece, section by section and with the iron I’m just going to do this… I don’t know how to explain what this motion is… kind of like a wave motion,” explained the model as she flexed her Dyson Corrale Hair Straightener ($699 at Dyson) back and forth through one section.

“The texture of my hair – especially when I’ve just showered and my hair is really, really clean – is it’s just kind of slick,” explained Bieber as she maneuvered the straightener expertly. “I have to sometimes add a texture spray or hairspray as I’m doing my hair so it has more of a grip… it gives it a little bit of thickness and it mattifies the hair a little bit. I have really sleek, silky hair and when you’re trying to do anything with an iron it kind of just slides out so this helps with that.”

3/

Dry shampoo

“I add dry shampoo at the end because I hope that when I do my hair and sleep on it it’ll still be fresh enough to wear the next day,” Bieber explained as she sprayed Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Dry Shampoo ($16.95 at Oz Hair & Beauty) at her roots to keep her hair looking “clean and fresh, but also textured and messy and a little bit gritty.”

4/

Hairspray

“My last, last step is to take a really light hairspray that’s not like super hard hold hairspray and just spray it lightly on both sides and that is it,” said Bieber matter-of-factly as she dispersed Phytolaque Soie Light Hold Hair Spray through her newly styled hair. “[And] that is my wavy hair tutorial.” Now, unfortunately Miss Bieber’s hair spray of choice isn’t available down under, but there are a wealth of equally impressive light-hold options to choose from like Sachajuan Hair Spray Light and Flexible ($42 at Sephora) or L'Oreal Professionnel Tecni.Art Air Fix ($32.95 at Adore Beauty).

After a few new additions to your hair styling routine?  These are the 3 products Hailey Bieber uses for cool-girl tousled texture.
